ONE-ON-ONE MANUSCRIPT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
LENGTH OF PROGRAM: 8 MONTHS (32 weeks)
Prose: 200-300 double-spaced pages (up to 85, 000 words)
Poetry: 50-100 pages
Screenplay: 90-120 pages
DEVELOPMENT PROCESS: In the first month, you will receive exercises intended to develop premise, character, and theme before you go to draft. Then we will make a submission schedule of approximately 30-50 pages a month (for prose), 10-15 (poetry and screenplay). You will also be provided with reading suggestions throughout the program. I will be available for in person meetings and/or Skype chats once a month in addition to providing written feedback on the work (if you’ve opted into the feedback program). There is also a no feedback program (see below).
DEADLINES: The deadlines are fixed with only a week grace period (unless there is a medical or personal emergency). If you miss out on a month’s feedback then you can’t make it up at the end. No one submission can be longer than 100 pages. This helps provide structure to the program and give writers a consequence if they don’t meet their deadlines.
OUTCOMES: This mentorship program is designed to see you through the first draft of a novel, memoir, feature-length screenplay, short fiction or poetry collection with monthly editorial feedback and support. Feedback will be limited to the literary and narrative elements of the work. I do not provide copyediting services.
Most projects will need multiple revisions. I cannot not guarantee publication, but if you follow the program guidelines, you will complete a solid first draft by the end of the mentorship and you will see an improvement in your writing.
You will also receive information on the business side of writing. Next steps, applying for grants, writing a creative business plan, approaching agents, engaging with the literary community, marketing yourself, etc.
$3000 (For a novel, memoir, collection of short fiction)
$2500 (For a feature-length script or play)
$2000 (For a poetry manuscript)
$1000 (For mentorship in all genres without feedback on the work. This option provides the writer with mentorship and support and monthly in person or Skype meetings where the writer can discuss the project, pitch the premise, characters, theme, talk about challenges, and set up deadlines. But I don’t read the work or provide written feedback. The purpose of this option is the put the structure in place for writers to complete their manuscripts.)
Note: For shorter projects there is a four month option as well. Contact me for details.
Payment can be made via PayPal or through e-transfer
ENROLLMENT IS LIMITED: I can only take on a small number of projects each year. Email me if you are interested in registering. It’s helpful if you send along a synopsis of your project, some information on your writing background, and what you hope to gain from the program. I only will accept projects where I feel that I’m a good fit and can help you with your manuscript.
Contact me here if you'd like to enroll in the program.
